My diy Portable Art Exhibition Wall.
Most artists are looking for places to exhibit there paintings. I am no different. Some venues do not allow anything to be hung on their walls. Table tops or several easels are not how I want to display my paintings. I could not find anything to buy that ticked all the boxes. So I decided to try and make my own wall.
I wanted a free standing wall that utilises pegboard hooks. It has to be easy to put together and take down again on my own. When packed away the wall must fit into a small car with space for my paintings etc. I also wanted the wall to be made from recycled materials.
There were several false starts, but after much thought.
This is what I came up with…
I used scaffold boards for the main framework. The slats are from my old fence panels and I used offcuts for the feet.
I wanted to slide the slats into the main frame. A plough plane would do the job. Luckily I managed to get a mint condition Stanley plough plane for £10 which enabled me to create the grooves for the slats to slide into.
I didn’t really want to drill that many holes for a pegboard. So I worked out where my paintings would hang from and only drilled those holes. During the build I discovered a bonus. I can also use both sides to hang paintings from at the same time (depending on the venue setup).
The finished Portable Art Exhibition Wall
My wall is now complete and ready to use. I will update this post when I have tried out the wall.
